A continuous fabric is a wide width fabric (280cm – 320cm) that can be turned 90 degrees and run continuously along the width of the curtain without the need to join drops of fabric together. A continuous fabric is often used when it is preferable not to have any visible seems or joins, such as with sheer curtains. It is important to note that a continuous fabric can only be used when the finished drop of the curtain is less than the fabric width (at least 350mm difference). If the finished drop exceeds this, the curtain must be sewn in drops (non-continuous curtain).
A non-continuous curtain is sewn by joining drops of fabric together selvedge to selvedge. It is most commonly used for sewing curtains made with standard width fabrics (137cm – 150cm). Wide width fabrics may also be sewn in drops to reduce the number of seems in the curtain, or when the finished drop exceeds the fabric width.
